Event Description: Attendees will be assigned passage on one of the three ships that came to symbolize the silence, indifference and complicity of the Western democracies in refusing to aid those desperate passengers fleeing the Nazi tyranny with the hope to live and survive in a safe haven. Each attendee will personally experience the voyage on the assigned ship. Through the lecture, attendees will “meet” fellow passengers and share their journey and final destination. This class is part of the 5th Annual Elliott Katz 2017 Lecture Series, which is being held at Hodges University, in partnership with the Frances Pew Hayes Center for Lifelong Learning. Individuals must register to attend. Tickets are $10 per person for each lecture or $50 for the entire series. Guests who attend at least three lectures will receive a free tour of the Southwest Florida Holocaust Museum. In addition, guests of the first lecture will receive “Project Tolerance: The Faces of Anne Frank” by Myra Roberts, a Sanibel-based artist whose work has appeared both public and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. For more information, contact April May at amay@hodges.edu or (239) 598-6153.
