SOUTHWEST FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
REPORTS FEBRUARY TRAFFIC
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 20, 2014) – During February, 862,899 passengers traveled through Southwest Florida International Airport, an increase of 4.3 percent compared to February 2013. Year-to-date, passenger traffic is up 3.7 percent from the same period last year.
“In spite of 223 flight cancellations in February due to weather conditions throughout the U.S., Southwest Florida International Airport experienced the best February in our 30-year history. In addition, international traffic increased 13.1 percent compared to 2013,” said Robert M. Ball, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority.
The traffic leader in February was Delta with 176,910 passengers traveling to and from Fort Myers. Rounding out the top five airlines were Southwest (169,408), JetBlue (92,291), US Airways (83,148) and Spirit Airlines (74,113).
Southwest Florida International Airport had 8,125 aircraft movements (takeoffs and landings), a decrease of 1.3 percent compared to February 2013. Page Field saw 8,347 movements, an 8.8 percent increase from February 2013. In addition, nearly 2.9 million pounds of air freight moved through Southwest Florida International Airport in February 2014, an increase of 3.1 percent compared to February 2013.
Southwest Florida International Airport served more than 7.6 million passengers in 2013 and is one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
