Survey: Improving Business Climate in Lee County


The business climate in Lee County is improving, according to the first-quarter 2014 Horizon Council FGCU Lee County Executive Business Climate survey. The survey was sent to 587 business executives in Lee County; 16 percent responded.  The Lee County Business Climate Index, which measures the state of the economy based on the responses, was 74 in the first quarter, up from 71 for the fourth quarter survey.  Some 83 percent of executives stated that the current economic conditions have improved over last year, while 85 percent of the executives expect the economy to improve in the next year. Businesses are hiring. Of those executives who responded, 58 percent increased employment in the last year while one percent reduced employment. In the next year, 56 percent of executives expect to increase employment and only two percent expect to reduce employment.
