Lee County Named Ford Next Generation Learning Community

Ford Motor Co. Fund will designate Lee County as a Ford Next Generation Learning Community at a ceremony on Wednesday. This makes the School District of Lee County part of a growing network of communities that are transforming public high schools into career-themed academies. The goal of Ford Next Generation Learning is to guide communities in designing and implementing a plan with a proven model that significantly boosts student performance and readiness for college and careers, using the career academy model. The School District of Lee County, The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, and community leaders have worked together to craft a three-year master plan to guide community efforts to increase the number of students participating in career academies within the Lee County School District. The plan also calls for a board of senior business, education, and civic leaders who will advocate for the academies and focus on expanding employer engagement with the schools. The designation will be celebrated at an event at The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, 2266 Second St., Fort Myers, from 4:30-6 p.m., with the designation ceremony taking place at 5:30p.m.
